The Maine Water Company is planning a water main replacement project on Rutter Ave/Route 23 and Water Street this fall. This project is needed to replace aging infrastructure in a critical area of Town that will increase hydraulics to this area. The project will start at the Messalonskee Stream Bridge near South Alpine Street on Route 23, and extend through Rutter Avenue, then down Water Street to a location near the Post Office. The project will begin on November 4, 2024. The project is expected to be completed in 60 days. The construction site will always maintain one-lane traffic around the work area, with flaggers or temporary traffic signals present during construction. The contractor will maintain access to all businesses and residential properties during the construction project. Traffic signs on either end of the project, when on Water Street, will indicate “Detour – Local Traffic Only”. This signage will be intended to transition thru-traffic to other streets. Vehicles that travel through the project area should expect delays during the construction period. Maine Water Company and the contractor will do their best to minimize the impact to vehicular traffic.
