Events

Each year in collaboration with the Oakland Lions club we put out thousands and thousands of eggs for kids. There are two separate groups for the event: ages 3-1st grade and second grade – 4th grade. Every kid will get a chance to get eggs with candy and eggs that could possibly win some prizes. Typically, this event ends up happening the Saturday before easter!

Every summer we host concerts every Thursday from June to August. This event is held at the Gazebo, and we have a food truck that comes as well. Pull up a chair and enjoy some great music with a beautiful summer night.

Remember the good old days of Drive in Movies? Well, here is your chance to experience something like that! Pleasant Point Park hosts this event, and the snack shack is open with goodies for sale including popcorn. Keep an eye out for the schedule of movies and bring your whole family to the event!

This event started when COVID hit us in 2020. There have been a few different variations to this event. This is typically held at the Messalonskee High School, and we have local businesses join in and decorate their vehicles. Although COVID has left us in a way, this event still provides lots of joy to us and the kids. This also allows businesses to join in on the fun. This typically happens the Sunday before Halloween!

This event has been one of our special events for years. In the past selected veterans have been honored for their service and commitment to the community. This past year we opened the event to all veterans and had a spaghetti meal for everyone. This event usually happens right around all veterans, and we welcome all veterans in Oakland to attend.

Over by the Fabian Oil office sits a tree that looks sad and lonely most of the year. Well not during this one event. Each year, on the first Friday in December the community gathers to witness the tree light up. There is music from middle and high school and hot chocolate for all. Sometimes even Santa comes to show up if he gets the time in his busy schedule.

Eric Seekins was a many of many talents and cared for this town, but one thing he started that will last forever is the first ever kids only ice fishing derby. This event has continued to this day and is a staple of our department. Each year in collaboration with the Oakland Lions Club this derby is on the first Sunday in February. Kids are the only ones allowed to register and bring in their best fish to weigh in and win prizes and trophies.
