Property Maintenance

The Property Maintenance Department originated in 1979, and built the department’s first shop in 1989, located at 35 Old Belgrade Avenue. The department has since enlarged its original shop for ground maintenance equipment and built additional shop used for the building maintenance side of the department.

The department employs four full-time employees that preform all buildings and grounds upkeep, two part-time janitorial staff members that keep four of the town’s buildings clean and tidy, and two seasonal workers, one that assists the Downtown Flower Committee making downtown look so amazing, while the other assists with maintaining grounds, parks and cemeteries throughout Oakland. This does not include any school grounds.

The department currently maintains thirty-seven buildings ranging in dates from 1873 to current. They also take care of 36+ acres of grounds, 18 acres of which are cemeteries, requiring yearly clean up, mowing, trimming, and burials. In the winter months, they assist the Public Works Department with plowing and snow removal on all the public sidewalks throughout Oakland, along with shoveling and treating of 1000+ ft of building walkways.

The town is very lucky to have such an efficient and knowledgeable crew, that shows up every day and gives 100%.
